Five Minute Drawings

Almost done with January!  At first it was super motivating to use the shaving cream paper as a base for the five minute drawings.  Ended up being happy with the very first 5 minute January post about glasses.  Ran out of steam by the time I had assembled the hot cups.

The colored pencils everyone said I had to have seemed similar to other colored pencils used in the past.  Almost didn't post because of the color combinations I tested out - meh!

The shaving cream paper was fun, looks cool but still smells like shaving cream a month later.  Still has a residue that doesn't take tape, glue, pencil or marker well.  Hmmmm....what do you do with it?  Just enjoy the process I guess.

Mandalas

Making light watercolor backgrounds first really inspired me and my students to draw the Sharpie patterns.  I will post student results soon.  A couple of them are still finishing up.  They were super excited about the extra watercolor papers being cut to journal size for smaller daily works of art.

We measured to find the center.  Made 1/2 inch tics horizontally and vertically.  Used circle templates for the smaller center circles and then moved to a compass.

Five Minute Drawings

January, in this neck of the woods, means digging down to the bottom of the mitten box to find a matching pair.

Five Minute Drawings

Trying out my new Black Book.  Found it at Barnes & Noble, after Holiday Clearance.  It has 28 blank black pages and a plastic protective cover.  Peter Pauper Press, Inc., BLACK BLANK BOOK
8.5 x 11.  Draw every day, even if it is just for 5 minutes.

Showered with Blessings

Former student, now in college to become a Veterinarian, emails to show me how her journal drawings are evolving.
Aren't they BEAUTIFUL!
Teaching can be so difficult!  The mistakes that we all make every day are right out there on display for the awesome little humans.  They make it all worthwhile!
Thanks for being awesome and making my day Madelyn VanKirk!

Pixel Art in Photoshop

Today in class a student wanted to know how to make Pixel Art so I read an article and watched a you tube video.  Changed the instructions based on what will work for my group.
This is a Clementine.

Photograph/Video Ice Bubbles

A Friend posted a video on my timeline of these beautiful icy bubbles.  Since it is 6 F out today I looked up a recipe on Popular Science.  I changed the recipe a bit:  1 cup of warm water, 2 Tbsp Super Fine Sugar, 2 Tbsp + 1 tsp Dawn Dish Soap, 2 Tbsp + 1 tsp Corn Syrup.  I put the mixture in the freezer for 1/2 an hour, took it out and stirred it. Next time I will think about the lighting and backdrop for the frozen creations instead of just stepping out onto the back stoop.
The photos and video are not great but the recipe is.  My daughter took a soda bottle and taped a piece of straw in the end.  then dipped the straw in the mixture and squeezed the bottle making a bubble without any hot air.

Pancake Gif

7th Grade students finished building sandwiches in Photoshop and asked if they could make a stack of pancakes.  Why not!

Mr. Gould made himself a pretty nice breakfast out of the props
