Apple Art

First Holiday break of the season.  Put my own spin on an idea found on Pinterest and made Rose Apples.  I went straight to the orchard for the apples but I didn't make tarts.  I just microwaved thin apple slices for 45 seconds (so they would bend into petal shapes) then arranged them in a muffin tin. Baked them (400) until brown. Easy, fast, delicous, beautiful - just baked apple!  They even stayed beautiful for breakfast the next morning on plain greek yogurt.

Meet the Mini Masterpieces

Meet the Mini Masterpieces inspired by Van Gogh.  The canvases are only 2 and a half inches square.  These beauties are the ornaments for our Artists Wonderland (winter wonderland) themed tree that we are donating to the Festival of Trees.  All proceeds benefit Prospect Child & Family Center.  Drawing & Painting Class does not disappoint!

Tomorrow we will start putting everything on the tree
The tree topper made out of an old palette and paintbrushes
The class did some marble painting for the center of the recycled palettes

The Science of Marble Painting
This activity explores the effects of gravity, motion and momentum while creating art.  By rolling the marbles in paint, placing paper in a tray, tilting the tray and moving the marbles around, students will experience and experiment with color, motion and gravity.  Raising and lowering any side of the tray creates an inclined plane affecting the speed of the ball.  The paint slows the marbles down.  Students see the effect of friction.  The more paint, the slower the rolling.  The final painting is a visual representation of their exploration.

Madelyn came to help set up the tree at The Queensbury.  She also joined me for the "Take a Bough" Designer Opening at the Queensbury.  The students were all given tickets to the Opening & The Festival.

FACS National Art Honor Society

So excited to report that 3 new members were inducted into our Fort Ann Chapter of NAHS.  Thrilled about the new National Art Honor Society Banner, tablecloth and candles.  Found out that it is impossible to raise my right hand, hold a microphone, advance the slides with the remote and say the pledge at the same time. Next year I will recruit a helper.  So grateful for the support of the NHS Advisor and the kind supportive words of my Principal and Superintendent.

5 Minute Journal Drawings

5 Minute Journal Drawings
Found a Blue Jay feather, washed it and left out to dry so I could glue it into a journal.  Had to start a new journal today.

Continuing with the feather theme.  I found another I had placed under a magnet on the fridge
Went on a 5 minute goat drawing binge!

Bell Ringer Book

I needed a space for students to jot down inferences so I made another Bell Ringer Book.  I enjoyed making the Monday through Friday spaces.

Discarded Book Collage

Drawing & painting Class - New Project this year!
A collage made out of discarded books.  The covers of the books, the inside card, the pages, the pictures.  All placed on with Mod Podge then covered with a light layer of Gesso.  Sketched on the Gesso and painted with acrylic.
