Reusable Bag Apron

I found a 10 minute (reusable bag) apron tutorial on Pinterest.
It really was 10 minutes! I made two in less than 20
Pictured above is the first attempt:
1.  A .99 cent reusable bag.
2. Cut the sides off leaving the raw edges on the stretched out bag.
3. Cut one handle off.
4. Fold stretched out bag in half and taper to the remaining handle.  I used another apron for a pattern.
5. Fold the bottom of the bag up forming a pocket.
6. Pin and sew.
7. Sew polyester bag straps on sides. I purchased 2 yards for $1.50 so that I could cross the straps in the back, bring them back around front and tie in a bow.

3 additional tips
1. Test your machine on a scrap.  This particular bag material could not take more than one run across.

2. Sew the side straps on the same way the bag handle is sewn.
3. The poly bag strap material can be sealed so it won't unravel.  Similar to working with paracord (I don't recommend this without a high level of adult supervision and ventilation).
You could run a zig zag stitch over it instead.

Here is the second apron.  Love these!
A huge sturdy pocket is formed by folding and sewing the bottom of the bag.  You can choose the size of the pocket by how much you fold.

New Bell Ringer Format

Designed a new Bell Ringer Format using several different ideas found on Pinterest.
Thanks go out to all the art teachers sharing amazing ideas.
This format will fit our journals.  If a student doesn't have a journal this can fold into a handmade book.

Lined Paper T

Found a DIY lined paper t-shirt on Pinterest (U Create:  u-create crafts.com).  Wanted to make a larger version of the t-shirt and write on it.  I thought it might be challenging to write on fabric and it was!
Currently it is in the washer per fabric paint directions.  Used masking tape with 1/4" spaces in between and a paint brush.
Washed and ready to wear.  Next time - stencils for the lettering!

New Journals!

New journals hot out of the package.  The outer cover can take paint, marker and decoupage.  Students can add any type of paper they would like inside because it is a binder.  It is small enough to carry everywhere and fill daily.

The Juried High School Show at The Hyde

Congratulations to Chrissy Adam

Today I attended the Opening Reception of the Juried High School Show at The Hyde Museum in Glens Falls, NY.  They did a wonderful job on everything from displaying the work to presenting awards.  It was a really great experience for my FACS student and her family.  I’m very thankful for all that they do to support student artists.

I would especially like to thank Evi Fisher who was kind and patient with me.  I would email for times and dates only to find them on my fridge from weeks before.  She is always smiling and encouraging no matter what!

Please visit the Hyde for the Student Show

They are celebrating the 25th anniversary of The Hyde Collection’s annual high school juried show. Each year, students from Warren, Washington, Saratoga, Hamilton, and Essex counties submit their work to be reviewed and selected by a jury composed of local art professionals. The exhibition presents 100 works chosen from more than 1,000 entries, showcasing the talent and creativity of our regional high school art students.

Visual Art Journal Treasures.
Students have 10 weeks of school left and they have filled their journals!  I heard more than one student say, "I feel so accomplished"
