Meet the Mini Masterpieces

Meet the Mini Masterpieces inspired by Van Gogh.  The canvases are only 2 and a half inches square.  These beauties are the ornaments for our Artists Wonderland (winter wonderland) themed tree that we are donating to the Festival of Trees.  All proceeds benefit Prospect Child & Family Center.  Drawing & Painting Class does not disappoint!

Tomorrow we will start putting everything on the tree
The tree topper made out of an old palette and paintbrushes
The class did some marble painting for the center of the recycled palettes

The Science of Marble Painting
This activity explores the effects of gravity, motion and momentum while creating art.  By rolling the marbles in paint, placing paper in a tray, tilting the tray and moving the marbles around, students will experience and experiment with color, motion and gravity.  Raising and lowering any side of the tray creates an inclined plane affecting the speed of the ball.  The paint slows the marbles down.  Students see the effect of friction.  The more paint, the slower the rolling.  The final painting is a visual representation of their exploration.

Madelyn came to help set up the tree at The Queensbury.  She also joined me for the "Take a Bough" Designer Opening at the Queensbury.  The students were all given tickets to the Opening & The Festival.
